Filing Early…Understanding the Consequences

Most folks know that filing for Social Security benefits before one’s full retirement age results in a lower monthly benefit payment, Of course, you’ll get more monthly payments, and the system is calibrated so that if your time in the program matches the actuarial tables, it doesn;t really matter. But it’s important for planning purposes that early filers understand that the lower payments continue forever, with no adjustment other than the annual cost-of-living adjustment (when it’s a positive number).
