The Equifax breach of consumer personal data is only one of many which have occurred in recent years.  That means that there’s a very real possibility that your personal data, including your Social Security number, may already be in the hands of cyber criminals.  A credit freeze might very well be your best line of defense against having your identity stolen, and all of the extremely unpleasant ramifications that go with it.  This USA Today article by Alia E.
