House Committees Challenge Social Security Rulemaking

In a letter issued today by several House committee leaders, a series of recently finalized Social Security Administration (SSA) rules have been challenged based on a failure to offset their costs as required by the Financial Responsibility Act. The four rules in question would “increase federal mandatory spending by over $37 billion within the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (DI) programs,” according to the letter, which can be read in full here.
