Impact of 2020 COLA Called “Troubling”

Sure, it was better than nothing, but not much better. As The Motley Fool’s Maurie Backman notes in a post on their website, “… a monthly boost of $10 or less isn’t going to do much for the typical retiree.” The $10 figure, of course, reflects the net benefit gain after factoring in Medicare Part B premium increases. Her article offers some conjecture on ways that those still in the workforce can prepare for future low-COLA years, essentially focusing on the importance of building a solid financial base capable of growing along with one’s needs in retirement.
