Important Medicare Information - Motley Fool

Medicare can be a confusing topic, and if you are on the cusp of age 65 (and thus soon eligible for Medicare), there are some really important things to know. First is the difference between “original Medicare” and “Medicare Advantage” – the former being the traditional government healthcare option and the latter being private healthcare insurance which substitutes for the original government Medicare program. There are pros and cons for each option, so its best to fully understand what each provides before making your coverage choice. Secondly, Medicare is not free, as there are monthly premiums which must be paid for most coverage, usually deducted from your Social Security payment if you are receiving SS benefits (otherwise, you must pay Medicare directly). And third, it’s very important to understand the potential of late enrollment to Medicare. All of this information is provided in this Motley Fool article by Kailey Hagen.

Also, if you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security or Medicare, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public advisory service to help Americans navigate the complexities of these programs. All questions are answered quickly, at no charge.  Learn more about it here…
