Is Social Security Your Only Income? - Newbreak.com

If Social Security is your only retirement income, you may be eligible for other assistance. If you are disabled or do not qualify for Social Security, you may qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is not Social Security, but it is handled through the Social Security Administration (SSA).

In addition to SSI, state-specific assistance may also be available. One such program is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as “SNAP.” The National Council of Aging (NCOA) states that as many as three out of five qualifying older adults aren’t enrolled in SNAP. Approximately five million people! The SNAP income and resource limits are updated annually, and your state determines your eligibility.

Moving forward, consider the Medicare Savings Program (MSPs), which could cover your Medicare premiums, deductibles, and copayments. You must at least have Medicare Part A and meet your state’s income and asset limits to qualify.

There are also tax credits and deductions that may help you. Additionally, some states offer property tax credits, exemptions, and programs to reduce the property taxes for older homeowners with limited income. To assist you in finding help, visit BenefitsCheckUp at https://benefitscheckup.org/.
