Max Social Security benefit unattainable for most

Christy Bieber explains why most folks will never get the maximum monthly benefit for Social Security, currently $4,194 per month. In short, you would need to have made or exceeded the maximum wage cap, thus paying FICA tax on that amount, and do so for a full 35 years of your career. Many people do make very high incomes, but it’s unusual to do so for 35 years or more. Plus, you would have to start benefits at age 70, and very few people claim then. Full piece here.
