Most Important Social Security Number to Ever Know is 40%
“If your Social Security check seems inadequate for your needs, it’s because it’s designed that way.” So says Jacob Wade in this piece. He wants all Americans to fixate on the number 40% because that’s about all that Social Security replaces for income. That means 60% of funds must come from somewhere else (i.e. personal savings of some kind built up over decades) if one is to maintain lifestyle. Of course people do spend less in retirement, but living off 40% of pre-retirement is just not possible. He lists sound advice for what to do to better prepare for retirement. Article is here.
