Deciding when to claim your Social Security benefits could be one of the most important financial decisions you’ll ever make, so it simply makes a lot of sense to choose wisely. But to do so, you need to understand the “ins and outs” of claiming Social Security, in particular, how your age when you claim affects your monthly payment. On the surface, it’s fairly simple – the earlier you claim the smaller your monthly benefit will be, and the longer you wait the more you’ll have to spend each month in retirement.
