Replacing the Social Security number for identification

Even though it wasn’t intended as such, the Social Security number has become the de facto means of identifying nearly every American, not only for Social Security but also for numerous other transactions, especially in banking and healthcare.  Since the visibility created by the massive Equifax data breach, calls for finding a new and less vulnerable method of identification have abounded, so maybe it’s time to look around the world and see what other countries are doing to securely identify their citizens.  This Bloomberg article by Suzanne Wooley takes a look at how other countries have found a safer alternative to a simple nine-digit number as a means of identification.  Click here to read more.
