Smaller Social Security Raise Predicted in 2020

Forget a repeat of the 2.8% cost of living adjustment (COLA) Social Security recipients received this year, according to Dan Caplinger’s analysis of inflation data for this year to date.  He explains the CPI-W index used to calculate the COLA and notes the numbers that go into producing the annual adjustment come from only three summer months: July, August, and September.  The early indications are for a COLA in the 1.4% to 1.7% range, though it is early and zero data is in from the actual three months that will be used.  Read full piece here.
