Snafus with Round 1 Stimulus. Round 2 in Works

Kevin Landrigan of New Hampshire’s Union Leader has a comprehensive piece here that looks at some of the snafus with round one stimulus checks from The Cares Act.  He notes that congressional analysts confirmed last week that while 160 million checks totaling $269 billion have gone out, 35 million eligible people still haven’t received theirs.  The House Ways and Means Committee concluded most of those who haven’t gotten their money made too little income to file income taxes in either 2018 or 2019.  As for a second stimulus check, he quotes President Trump, “We will be doing another stimulus package. It’ll be very good; it’ll be very generous.”  Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has concerns about more problems, though, stating “In the spirit of bipartisanship, we should be able to agree to NOT send money to dead people! My legislation will require Treasury to use Social Security death data and reclaim money sent to dead people.”  Read full piece here.
