Social Security: A “Nearly Perfect” Component of Your Retirement Strategy

Steve Vernon, consulting research scholar at the Stanford Center on Longevity, in collaboration with the Society of Actuaries (SOA), puts forth suggestions for accumulating the nest egg you’ll need for retirement. In his article, he cites Social Security as being “nearly a perfect retirement income generator: It lasts the rest of your life, it protects against inflation, it doesn’t go down if the stock market crashes, it’s paid automatically into your checking account, part of it isn’t subject to income taxes ” His post also includes a brief video titled “The Definitive Guide to Retirement Savings Plans,” a segment that outlines the basics of 401ks, IRAs, Roth IRAs, and HSAs.
