Social Security expands the “Compassionate Allowance List”
Despite all of the stories you often hear about delays when applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, Social Security actually does have a process for expediting claims which involve illnesses or diseases which, by their very nature, qualify one for SSDI benefits. The list of illnesses and diseases, known as the Compassionate Allow List (CAL), is actually quite extensive with over 200 conditions already identified as eligible for expedited processing of an SSDI application. This often results in an approval in as little as 2 weeks, versus the normal 3-6 months. Recently the Social Security Administration added four more conditions to their CAL, as explained in this Montgomery Herald ((WV) article. Click here to read more.
