Stimulus Update– A Moving Target

Seniors, like most Americans, are watching the current stimulus talks carefully between both houses of Congress and The White House.  Retired seniors have arguably been affected much less than others in the case of job losses and pay cuts.  The talks had been centered around help for state and local governments and a smaller $300 per week federal “top off” for the unemployed, whose extra benefits are due to run out right after Christmas.  Enter the latest White House proposal to send $600 checks to individuals (half the amount sent last spring) but with no unemployment “top off.”  The proposal appears to extend regular unemployment benefits, however.  Negotiations will continue.  Read the latest in this USA Today piece here.
