Survey results: Americans don’t understand Social Security

Despite the fact that Social Security is probably the most important benefit program in America, far too many seniors don’t understand even the most basic elements of the program. This shocking news comes from a recent survey of over 1000 seniors done by MassMutual Life Insurance Company. Social Security is the main force for keeping over 22 million American seniors out of poverty, and over 62 million people rely on the program for monthly income. That’s why it’s so disturbing that nearly half of all respondents failed to pass a relatively simple 5 question quiz on the most basic Social Security elements. In this Motley Fool article, columnist Sean Williams dissects the survey results,  reveals the quiz questions and provides insight into the correct answers. Click here to read more.

Also, if you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public service to help Americans navigate the complexities of this program. Learn more about it here…
