The Age of Baby Boomers

The most ageist generation against Boomers may be Boomers themselves. This paradoxical phenomenon can be readily seen on most television programs today. The stereotypical grumpy old guy can be caught in most shows in his role of “not keeping up with the times.” These characters embody every stereotype from an exaggerated midlife crisis to not understanding current technology. Most real world Boomers are far from these caricatures that they themselves created. Boomers are the most activate generation of any past generation at the same age and show no signs of slowing down. Rather than a midlife crisis they celebrate their age and enter retirement as a sort of renaissance period free to do whatever they may want with their new found freedom from the obligations and stress of their former jobs.
