Social Security and Medicare go hand in hand. One of the biggest problems with the zero COLA increase for this year was the concurrent rise in Medicare premiums that many people pay with Social Security benefits. These payments are commonly taken straight out of the benefit checks before they are sent out, leaving the recipients with no option of how to pay their Medicare. The new rules for Social Security changed the game up a little and now everyone is left scratching their head as they try to make sense of it all over again. Even the government got caught up in the red tape surrounding the increasing premiums and stagnating benefits.
