When you file for Social Security benefits has a very big impact upon how much your benefit will be. If you claim benefits at your full retirement age (somewhere between 66 and 67, depending on when you were born) you get 100% of your benefit. But claiming early means that your benefit could be cut as much as 30%. And here’s some really good news: if you delay claiming past your full retirement age you’ll get 8% more for each year you delay.
