Understanding How Your Money is Invested

A common problem today is not fully understanding where your money is and how your investments are working for you. Chances are, though, if you have a 401(k) or similar plan through work then you most likely have money invested in a mutual fund. The main thing to know about mutual funds is that it is not just your money in the account, your money is pooled with the money of many other people and all invested together. This is advantageous because the fund all together will grow at a greater rate compared to if it was just your money, it also lessens your total risk since the risk is split between everyone else in the fund.
