Update on the Social Security Fairness Act - MSN.com

The much-heralded “Social Security Fairness Act” resulted in increased Social Security benefits for anyone who was previously affected by either the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) or the Government Pension Offset (GPO). These provisions affected anyone who had earned both a Social Security benefit and a government pension without contributing to the Social Security program, and both were repealed in January 2025. And that meant that about 3 million government retirees are entitled to a higher monthly Social Security payment. The Social Security Administration has done excellent work to, thus far, adjust benefits for about 91% of those affected. But some cases, especially those with a unique or complex situation, require the direct attention by Social Security Administration staff, and these may remain outstanding until November 2025, as reflected in this MSN.com article by Diego Pérez Morales.
