Watch Your Mailbox After Christmas. SSA-1099s In the Mail Soon - The Economic Times

SSA-1099s and SSA-1042S will be available in your My Social Account online on Christmas Day. Social Security will begin mailing them out on December 26th, and they should all be received in the mail by the end of January.

A lot of seniors are going to pay less taxes next year, as a result of the additional $6,000 standard tax deduction included in the Big Beautiful Bill. As it wasn’t passed until the middle of the year, the majority will have overwithheld their taxes, so will now receive a larger refund. On the other hand, those affected by the Social Security Fairness Act may now have to pay additional taxes due to the refund of benefits dated back to January 2024.

Plyush Shakla has written an article about the changes that occurred in 2025 and the effect they may have on your 2025 tax return, including the taxation of Social Security.  To read the full article, click here….

  1. I’m new to receiving SS benefits and I have not received anything in the mail. I did go to the SSA site and saw the form SSA-1099-R-OP1 for 2025… Is this the form to submit to my tax guys? On the bottom of form it says DO NOT RETURN THIS FORM TO SSA OR IRS. Help !

  2. my wife passed away August 15, 2025. I can’t asses her account but need her 1099 to process my federal Tax form. How can I obtain this.

    • Chester,
Since you are unable to access your wife’s online SS account, the easiest and fastest way to get this is to call Social Security (either at the national number -1-800-772-1213 – or at your local SS field office) and explain the problem. They will be happy to send you your wife’s 2025 form SSA-1099 in the U.S. mail after you prove you are your wife’s widower.
I hope this answers your question, but feel free to contact us again at SSAdvisor@amacfoundationn.org or call 1.888.750.2622 to speak to one of our accredited SS advisors.

    • Dennis,
Your SSA-1009 may still be in the U.S. mail. However, if you do not have that document by the end of January, you can get another copy by accessing your “my Social Security” online account at http://www.ssa.gov/myaccount, or by calling the Social Security Administration at 1.800.772.1213 and asking them to mail your form SSA-1099 to you.
