When does my Social Security payment come in May? - mlive.com

More than 75 million Americans currently collect Social Security benefits. Matt Durr’s article outlines the May 2026 payment schedule. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients always receive payments on the first of the month, unless the first falls on a weekend or holiday, in which case payment occurs earlier. Although SSI is not a Social Security benefit, the Social Security Administration (SSA) manages it.

Social Security payment dates depend on your birth date.

  • If you were born between the 1st and 10th of any month, you receive payments on the second Wednesday. For May, this date is the 13th.
  • Individuals born between the 11th and 20th receive payments on the third Wednesday of each month. In May, payments will be sent on the 20th.
  • Those with birthdays from the 21st to the 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday of each month. In May, this falls on the 27th.

As with SSI, if your scheduled payment date lands on a holiday, you receive it the day before.

If you’ve received Social Security since before 1997, or if you get both Social Security and SSI, your payment schedule differs. Social Security payments arrive on the 3rd of each month, while SSI is paid on the 1st. Next month, any payments due on the 3rd will be paid on May 1st, due to the third falling on a Sunday.
