When You’ll Get Your Social Security Payments in 2022

In recent weeks, much of the news has trumpeted the 5.9% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) that will start appearing in benefit payments in January 2022. This across the board benefit increase, the highest in nearly 4 decades, will boost your monthly benefit to somewhat offset the high inflation we are all now experiencing. That COLA increase, which affects not only Social Security benefits but also Supplemental Security Income (SSI), will be in your payments next year. When will you get those payments? Well, Social Security has also released the 2022 payment schedule for Social Security and SSI payments, which can be found in this article by Ken Haddad appearing at Detroit’s ClickOnDetroit website. Please note in the schedule, however, that those collecting only SSI receive their payment on the first of the month, and that those collecting both SSI and Social Security are paid on the 3rd of the month. If any payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, payment is always made on the first business day preceding the normal payment date.
