Why Women Have Less in Retirement than Men

A new study shows that men’s retirement savings are on average 50% higher than that of women. The same study also shows that women were more likely to opt in to retirement plans as well as put in a higher percentage of their earnings. The reason that men’s savings numbers were higher is because they were paid more. It is a well-known fact that although it has been getting better recently, men have historically been paid more for doing the same job than women, and this is the reason that men have the bigger retirement accounts despite the reports showing that women are more likely to save.
