A facetious account of the Social Security COLA increase

By now, most beneficiaries have gotten a letter from Social Security about the exciting 2% cost of living increase they’re about to get, but had that excitement immediately dampened by the next sentence in the letter which informs them that their increase will be applied to their Medicare premium amount to bring it up to, or closer to, the 2018 premium of $134 per month.  What that means is that they will get either nothing, or much less, as an actual increase in their monthly Social Security check.  This tongue-in-cheek article by Larry Fugate appears in the Newark (OH) Advocate and relates an imaginary conversation he has with his dog about how they’ll enjoy their new-found Social Security riches.  Click here to read more.
