How changing demographics affect the US labor force
Unemployment is down. The number of job openings is up. But the US labor force participation rate is still shrinking. Today, fewer Americans age 16 and older are participating in the labor force than at any time since 1978, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The report, published in December, charts the decline in labor force participation since the end of World War II.
