Ways and Means Committee on Social Security Waste
Recently the House Ways and Means Subcommitte on Social Security met to discuss waste, fraud, and abuse within the Social Security system. The meeting was joined by the Inspector General of the Social Security Administration where he detailed many of the challenges that the system is currently facing in these areas. They added that money waste was not the only concern, but that identities were also at risk because of the use of Social Security Numbers on most forms. The Inspector Generals chief concern was with the cost of the taxpayers in both paying out to fraudulent claims and in paying for the fix to the problem itself.
