How Working Baby Boomers Effect the Job Market

This year there are more jobs in the U.S. than at any other point in history with 144.42 million positions. But that is not enough, because the job growth rate is only 546,000 per year since the Great Recession. Experts say that in order to accommodate job seekers we would need a growth rate of 1.8 million each year and this is, in some part, due to Baby Boomers continuing to work after the “normal” retirement age.   Americans are staying healthier longer, and therefore staying in the work force longer, taking up job positions that younger Americans might otherwise have access too.
