Dealing with Fraud–2017 Tax Laws Increase Scrutiny on Certain Provisions

Erin Brookshier, Virginia Today Reporter, discusses changes in the tax laws taking affect in 2017 that will provide additional time for the IRS to analyze returns before granting refunds, with an intent to reduce fraud in areas like earned income credit, additional child care credit, and identity theft. As her article points out, the increased scrutiny is likely to have the affect of delaying refunds, since incoming returns are expected to be held a few weeks before processing in order to give agents additional time for pre-validation.
