What is your Social Security “break even point” ?
Your “break even point” – the age at which you would have collected the same total amount of benefits whether you retired at 62 or your full retirement age (66 for most baby boomers) – has many variables. Looking at this number is a valid exercise for anyone approaching Social Security eligibility, and it’s fairly easy to calculate, but you should recognize that it’s only a hypothetical number based upon several factors, some of which are statistical averages.
