It’s time to re-think our credit reporting system

American consumers have no choice, but their personal data are amassed in the electronic files of the three major credit reporting firms – Equifax, Trans Union, and Experian.  And as the recent massive data breach at Equifax revealed, those data are exposed to high-tech cyber criminals who are able to hack their way into the files, putting consumers at a very high risk of identity theft.  This CNBC article by Yen Nee Lee explains why the United States was wide open to the Equifax disaster, and suggests that it’s time to fundamentally rethink the whole credit reporting system.  Click here to read more.
