Universal Basic Income Cited in Heritage Foundation Report
A February 14 report posted by Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector and Mimi Teixeira provides an analysis of the Universal Basic Income (UBI) concept re-emerging in conceptual discussions. Citing the UBI concept’s implicit elimination of Social Security as a protective measure for the elderly and the disabled, the report’s authors take an in-depth look at how such a policy would likely unfold, and pose this potential outcome: “By establishing a new universal entitlement and by creating for the first time a moral expectation that able-bodied adults who refuse to support themselves should be entitled to aid from the taxpayer, a UBI would set the stage for a massive expansion of government.”
Rector is Senior Research Fellow in Domestic Policy Studies at Heritage, and Teixeira is a Graduate Fellow in Domestic Policy Studies at Heritage. Read their full report here…
