“Fixing” Social Security – yet another perspective
There’s certainly no shortage of so-called “experts” who have an opinion on how to fix Social Security’s looming financial issues. As you may know, for the first time in decades Social Security will need to dip into its $2.9 trillion Trust Fund this year to pay beneficiaries, and that trend is forecast to continue until the Trust Fund is depleted in 2034. The responsibility to fix that problem lies, of course, with the U.S. Congress, but many media pundits think they have figured out what Congress needs to do, including Chris Stanley, who offers his views in this Olean (NY) Times Herald article he calls “Progressive Solutions”. Trouble is, in true progressive fashion, he simplistically believes raising taxes is the answer to all Social Security’s woes.
AMAC has been at the forefront trying to strengthen Social Security by developing and proposing its Social Security Guarantee. AMAC has been discussing and continues to discuss this common-sense solution with Congressional Representatives in its efforts to protect America’s senior citizens who rely on Social Security.
