Pandemic Special: Medicare Now Covers “Telehealth” Services
Adjusting quickly and nimbly to how the pandemic has changed the face of healthcare, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a major update to Medicare’s coverage of “telehealth” services. That’s really good news for both patients and medical service providers who can now get and provide coverage for at-home healthcare performed via telephone, email, texting and video chat consultation. With Medicare’s new rules, your doctor, for example, can meet with and counsel you via telephone to provide you healthcare in the safety of your own home. Telehealth can be used for, among other things, routine office visits, screenings, and prescription services, so that you can avoid exposure to the coronavirus which might come with an in-person office visit.
