How To Get the Biggest Possible Social Security Payment

For 2021, the maximum possible Social Security benefit anyone can get is $3,895, obviously a lot more than the average monthly benefit of about $1500. So how can you get that maximum benefit? Well, it’s not easy, and if you’re already collecting or about to collect, your options for how to increase your benefit are limited. For one thing, to get that maximum $3,895 amount you’d need to have earned at least as much as the annual payroll tax cap for at least 35 years over your lifetime, and that’s obviously something you can’t change if you’re nearing retirement. But, there are other things you have control over which will affect the size of your SS benefit, such as delaying your application for benefits and, if you don’t have at least 35 years of earnings, continuing to work. All of this is discussed in this Statesville (NC) Record & Landmark article by Christy Bieber. Click here to read more.
