Stimulus Update: SSA Responds to Criticism Re: EIPs - SSA, CNET
Social Security Administration Commissioner Andrew Saul, in a payment posted on SSA’s blog page, responded to the assertion of delays in forwarding processing information to the IRS to enable delivery of Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) authorized in the American Recovery Plan Act. Saul’s statement reported that the pre-processing testing was completed earlier this week, and that production data was delivered to the IRS as of yesterday (3/25). Part of the preparation process, Saul noted, included necessary updates to “…ensure that payments go to correct bank accounts and addresses, and, that those who are deceased are removed from the files.” Read the Commissioner’s statement here…
Yesterday afternoon, CNET Editorial Director Jessica Dolcourt provided an update for those still waiting for their EIP, noting that “If yours hasn’t arrived in your bank account by now, it’s likely you’re getting a paper check or EIP debit card — even if you think the IRS has your banking information on file.” Her article goes on to note that the IRS provides daily updates to its online tool for checking the status of individual EIP checks, since the agency is not taking calls, and she provides a link directly to that tool. Ms. Dolcourt also notes that the postal service is also reportedly experiencing delivery delays, yet another hiccup in the flow of needed financial relief.
