Reflections About Social Security’s Early Days
Tom Margenau, an always entertaining long-time employee of the Social Security Administration, is now retired but still dispensing his knowledge in a weekly column about Social Security. Tom’s articles usually offer sage advice about Social Security’s myriad rules and regulations and how they apply to you, but in this week’s article he reflects back on the type of service the agency provided “in the good old days” when he was a traveling field representative bringing Social Security services directly to the public. As a field representative, Tom would set up mini-SS offices in, for example, senior centers to provide services directly to individuals.
