Pandemic hit older workers harder
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the pace of retirement among baby boomers according to Pew Research Center analysis of monthly labor force data. Pew is reporting “the number of boomers who reported that they were out of the labor force due to retirement grew 3.2 million in the third quarter of 2020 compared with the previous year.” The report also noted, “employees don’t always get to decide when to retire, but delaying it, when possible can help shore up finances.” In Liz Weston’s article, she writes how retirement has been shaken up by the pandemic.
