Supplemental Security Income (“SSI”) for Disabled Children
Supplemental Security Income, or “SSI,” is a special stand-alone benefit program for disabled seniors and disabled children who have very low income and very few assets. “SSI” is administered by the Social Security Administration but should not be confused with regular Social Security benefits earned by working, or entitled to as the spouse, survivor or minor child of a worker. Rather, SSI is a benefit paid for from the Federal Government’s general treasury funds to those who meet the means-testing criteria for such benefits, including and especially children with disabilities. In this (IL) Herald & Review article, Social Security’s District Manager Jonna Reno provides details on how SSI works for children with disabilities. Click here to read more.
