Homelessness and Social Security

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) are lifelines for people experiencing homelessness. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 2020 Annual Homelessness Assessment Report notes roughly 580,000 people are currently without a home and the National Alliance to End Homelessness found about 25-30 percent have severe physical and mental disabilities.
People who experience homelessness tend to age faster than people who have access to housing because of the stress of living on the street, poor nutrition, social isolation, and the effects of extreme weather and unsanitary conditions. They also often deal with substance use disorders along with severe health issues—including diabetes, heart disease, and HIV/AIDS. Continue reding here…

My comment is this. If they are really doing anything to help homelessness they wouldnt make people wait 3 to 5 years or more till they make a decision. Why jump through so many hoops when so many people need help.
Have some kind of temporary payment system till people either get approved or denied
I’ve been waiting 3 years now . Still waiting for a hearing date.. I’m facing homelessness because I am unable to work . My doctor is on board. My psychiatrist is on board and yet here I am. Living in a car and winter is coming .
I have major physical and mental problems that both prevent me from really functioning at all really ..
Noone takes HUD vouchers , noone allows ESA who is a crucial part of my therapy . He is a trained 5 year old cat ..
This is why I’m living in a car praying I get approved for disability ..
I’ve worked since I was 13 .. this is the first time in my life where I’ve needed help and here I am still waiting .. so tell me how they help fight homelessness ?
