Today is “World Elder Abuse Day”–Social Security Scams Abound!
Social Security public affairs specialist Charo Boyd offers thoughts on how Social Security-related scams factor into the mistreatment of, and violence against, older people. Her post, carried on www.kokomotribune.com, describes the many ways scammers and fraudsters target older Americans, and offers clarification on ways to identify a scam when you see it. Included in her remarks is the oft-repeated advice that Social Security will never “(r)equire payment by retail gift card, wire transfer, internet currency or cash by mail.” one of the frequent hallmarks of a scam in action.
