Additional Stimulus for Social Security Recipients? The Fight Continues.
Representatives of the Senior Citizens League announced recently that efforts are continuing to push for a $1400 additional stimulus payment for Social Security recipients, with a current petition now containing roughly 75,000 signatures. The petition, SCL’s Social Security and Medicare policy analyst Mary Johnson explains, has been circulating since the beginning of October and is picking up steam in recent weeks. Ms. Johnson reported that SCL’s intent is to get the petition in the hands of legislators before the they leave in December for the holiday season. She also acknowledged that prospects for another stimulus are “doubtful,” given the already scheduled 5.9% COLA for 2022, but indicated that continued changes in the economy could change that outlook.
