Is Your Local Social Security Office Fully Open?
It was with considerable fanfare that the Social Security Administration announced earlier this month that all Social Security field offices would open for normal in-person visits on April 7th. With all offices closed to in-person services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, that was welcome news for American seniors, especially those who aren’t computer savvy enough to make effective use of Social Security’s online services, and for those who have suffered excruciatingly long telephone wait times to contact the agency. True to their word, most Social Security field offices opened their doors on April 7th, but many offices weren’t fully prepared to allow unrestricted public access so remain still temporarily closed, or are offering in-person service by appointment only. So how do you know if your local office is fully accessible? Well, Social Security has a web link you can access which provides the current status of all field offices. Simply go to this link, scroll to your state, and you will see the status of all field offices in your area.
