Returning to Work after You’re On Medicare - CNBC
It’s a reality of today’s economy and higher life expectancies – many people who retired are returning to work, either to supplement their retirement income, or because they want to stay active as they age. Whatever the reason, if you are already on Medicare and return to work, there are some things you should be aware of. First, if your new employer offers a healthcare plan, you may wish to consider whether your should stay on Medicare or move over to the employer plan while you’re working. But, that isn’t always so easy or without consequences. Secondly, your income level may affect taxation of your Social Security benefits and could also cause your Medicare Part B (coverage for outpatient services) and Part D (prescription drug coverage) premiums to go up. And, if your employer offers a Health Savings Account (HSA) your need to be aware of the limitations of contributing to that HSA while on Medicare Part A. (which is mandatory if you are collecting Social Security). All of this is explained in this CNBC article by Sara O’Brien. Click here to read more.
