The Real Reason Your Medicare Premium is Going Down in 2023 - WEBMD

On the heels of the announcement by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) that Part B premiums will go down in 2023 (see yesterday’s headline article on this site), politicians are clamoring to take credit for the decrease. Reality is, however, that the decrease was somewhat automatic because last year’s Part B premium was artificially high due factors surrounding an anticipated treatment for Alzheimer’s – a treatment which was significantly discounted early in 2022 resulting in much lower than expected Medicare costs this year. Rather than adjust the Part B premium early this year when the anomaly was discovered, the government chose to continue the higher than needed Part B premium for all of 2022. The Part B premium for 2023 will revert to the appropriate level largely because the lower treatment costs related Alzheimer’s will be factored in. And that yields a lower Part B premium based on the standard formula for same. All of this is explained in this WEBMD article by Kerry Dooley Young. Click here to read more.
