Fact is, age 62 is the most popular age that Americans claim their Social Security benefits. For many, they do so simply because they can, after working and contributing to the program for their entire lifetime. And, sometimes, claiming at age 62 is exactly the right decision if, for example, you’re not in good health and don’t expect to enjoy at lease average longevity. But although there are good reasons to claim your benefits at age 62, you may also find later in life that you regret that decision and, unfortunately, you’ll have scant opportunity later in life to change your decision.
