Social Security’s “Ticket to Work” Program – Equity for the Disabled - SSA

Social Security administers two separate disability programs – “SSDI” (Social Security Disability Insurance) which is disability insurance for working Americans who become disabled, and “SSI,” (Supplemental Security Income) which is a means-tested assistance program for disabled Americans of any age. Some Americans are disabled from a very young age, while others become disabled later in life, but most share a common vision to be a part of the American workforce and contribute (and earn) to the best of their ability. The Social Security Administration’s “Ticket to Work” program provides, indeed, a “ticket” for all who are collecting disability benefits to gain the skills needed to improve their financial status. Working with state vocational agencies and private employment networks, the Ticket to Work program helps someone receiving disability benefits build a road to financial independence through employment. In recognition of this being National Disability Employment Awareness month, this blog article by Susan Wilschke of the Social Security Administration gives details about the Ticket to Work program and how it supports disabled Americans.
