Is This Your Year to File for Social Security Benefits?

Those on the fence about whether to take the plunge and claim their earned Social Security benefits or hold off for higher (but fewer) monthly payments have a significant decision to make. There are, however, some basic “tests” you can apply to help you determine how financially ready you are to make the decision and, as The Motley Fool’s Katie Brockman points out in a post today on their website, first and foremost is the state of your savings accounts. Knowing your expected benefit amount, and knowing how your age will affect your benefit are also key factors, as is knowing how the decision will affect spousal and survivor benefits if you are a married couple.
