The Scoop on Social Security’s Viability

Maurie Backman notes 53% of pre-retirees expressed concern about Social Security’s long-term viability based on a recent Nationwide survey. The fear is palpable as the program is barreling toward financial insolvency. Benefits will be slashed 23% for all automatically in about 9-10 years. Backman says some kind of cut appears inevitable, even if Congress intervenes. But the good news is the program isn’t going away.
